蔡九五

字秉乾，台北蘆洲人，清光緒十三年生。學界評其為，少穎慧，喜弄丹青，勾染花卉、禽鳥，無不工麗。中年期曾任赴上海隨當地畫家吳松學習畫魚，嗣後專意畫魚，氣韻生動，論者謂為東州第一。

此件虎畫，明顯具有東洋畫意味，概念化的造形顯示蔡九五已經達到熟練階段，卻也不容易超脫某種窠臼的限制。
