據史料記載，均紅釉主要出現在宋朝，從元朝開始慢慢減少，到了明朝初年鈞窯已經很難燒制出紅釉瓷器。基於這點，有人認為明清兩代的紅釉可能和鈞窯並沒有關係，而且景德鎮從宋末也已經開始燒制紅釉。鈞窯在北方，景德鎮在南方，兩者並沒有太大的交集
