《瑪利歐》RPG 系列的原點，以煥然一新的圖像，相隔 27 年在 Nintendo Switch 重生。 為了救出被綁架的碧姬，瑪利歐朝著庫巴城堡前進。

 

只要打敗庫巴就能安心了。正如此想著的當下，巨大的劍卻突然從天而降。劍刺穿了庫巴城堡，被這樣的衝擊吹飛的瑪利歐決定重新出發尋找碧姬。途中，瑪利歐得知能夠實現世人願望的「星星之路」被刺中庫巴城堡的劍破壞，並化成了「星星碎片」散落在世界各處。

 

瑪利歐在旅程途中邂逅了可靠的夥伴們，並與他們一起搜集星星碎片，為了奪回願望能被實現的和平世界而展開冒險。
