坐洋，區別於站洋，因為銀幣的正面鑄有坐著的不列顛女神而得名，站洋的那個人是站著的。
坐洋也稱坐人兒、法光、七角（因為這種銀幣正面所鑄的自由女神坐像頭上的花圈有光芒七束）。坐洋，根據1952年在人民銀行內部出版的《銀元圖說》，其正式名稱應為安南銀元，亦稱「坐人」、「法光」、因為這種銀幣正面所鑄的自由女神坐像頭上的花圈有光芒七束，俗稱「七角」。
但為了敘述方便下文仍採用「坐洋」的說法。50分的「坐洋」銀幣僅有1879、1884、1885、1889、1894～1896、1900、1936年等9個年份開鑄，其他年份都沒有開鑄。減重的銀元受到抵制，流通不便，於是在1936年發行了13克90%銀的原重坐洋50分；之後，隨著中國法幣改革和二戰的爆發，法屬印度支那不再發行銀幣。
