留聲機雜誌：拉美的阿提拉汗是真的具有匈奴王豪壯氣勢的演唱，他更以雄霸一方的權威感凌駕全場。史都德的斷句優美，高音域唱得來去自如，在大型管弦合唱之中，依然清麗突出。

匈奴王阿提拉汗是西元四世紀初的匈奴帝國之王，他率領匈奴西進，直到德國的烏拉爾河、再從多瑙河來到波羅的海，聲威遠播於整個羅馬帝國，在他一生中兩度進逼巴爾幹半島，遠及於高盧和法國腹地，他是歷史上唯一堪與亞歷山大帝和成吉斯汗並提的英雄人物。威爾第在一八四六年推出此劇，成為他創作生涯初期的代表作。劇中出了一首男高音詠嘆調“E gettatta la mia sorte"則是威爾第歌劇詠嘆調的代表風格，在當時非常受到歡迎。威爾第的「阿提拉汗」一劇描寫阿提拉汗大軍來到羅馬近郊時，看到一群女人，女人中的領導歐妲貝拉向前詢問阿提拉，為何匈奴人出征不帶妻女，匈奴王受其勇氣所感動，答應她一件事，但她卻說希望有一把劍可以讓她殺阿提拉汗以報父仇，阿提拉饒她一命，並在隨後因為歐妲貝拉破壞羅馬人毒殺阿提拉汗的事後，下令要娶她為妻，歐達貝拉假做應允，卻在最後以劍刺中阿提拉汗，為羅馬人報仇，而阿提拉汗的大軍也始終未再踏進羅馬城。 

這份一九八九年的錄音，是以當年史卡拉歌劇院復演此劇的原始卡司和製作錄成的，兩年後同樣的卡司也拍攝了錄影發行DVD，是歷來卡司陣容最堅強的「匈奴王阿提拉汗」錄音。
