彩系盤口瓶，器型優美，唐彩多以含有大量高嶺土的白色黏土為原料，先在1000℃以上的窯溫下燒制素坯，上釉后，在800℃左右低溫下燒成。有的在釉下的胎上采用刻花、劃花、貼花等技法做鳥獸、花卉、人物等裝飾。釉由含鐵、銅、鈷、錳等多種呈色素的礦物配制。作為助熔劑的鉛，既可降低燒成溫度，又能使釉面光亮。各種著色金屬氧化物熔于鉛釉中，相互交融，自然流淌，形成斑駁美麗的釉色。顏色有黃、綠、白、藍、褐等，其中藍釉是中國最早的以鈷土礦作彩料所呈現的釉色。唐彩大都是冥器，只有小部分為生活用具，器類主要有俑、動物、模型器、建筑構件大類，其中俑和動物是在武則天（684~704）時期才現的。玄宗開時期，唐彩藝術展到巔峰。
